Microbiology & Immunology Department

General Lecture about Microbiology & Immunology Department:

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology (is a leader in biomedical research aimed at discovering the basic principles of how microorganisms (viruses and bacteria) function and how immune systems fight to keep these organisms at bay. Exploring the mechanisms of bacterial and viral pathogenesis,  the virulence factors in which sexually transmitted and other bacteria escape antibiotic treatment, how bacteria mobilize and colonize surfaces within the host, and how bacteria develop and differentiate as mechanisms for their survival. Using these information, we also examine how immune systems can successfully protect hosts from infection and develop long-term memory that is useful for vaccine and therapeutic design to treat infection, cancer, and autoimmune diseases.

Because of the wide diversity of beneficial as well as harmful microbial life forms, there is an increasing demand in pharmaceutical fields including drug industry for employees with experience and skills related to microbial biology. Moreover, understanding the microbial world is necessary to maintain the health of the biosphere. Therefore, The Department of Microbiology and Immunology contributes knowledge in the fields of basic, molecular, pharmaceutical, environmental, and applied biology of microbes in addition to host-microbe interactions and infection control. Most of the studies in the department are accompanied by laboratory and/or tutorial classes that lead to graduation of qualified, creative and internationally competitive human resources.

The department teaches the courses of the Bachelor of Pharmacy Regulations (2015), PharmD and Clinical, within which it includes the dissemination of basic knowledge in microbiology, microbial genetics, immunology, parasitology, biotechnology, microbial diseases and how to treat them. It also includes the dissemination of basic knowledge in biology Advanced microsurgery, molecular biology, industrial biotechnology, and control of sterile pharmaceutical products. The master’s and doctoral dissertations were discussed for many members of the supporting staff, and many different student activities were carried out, and a “Microbiology day” was held, in which the various activities of students at all academic levels were presented and evaluated by external professors. Scientific work, teamwork, the department’s participation in medical convoys, and educating patients with leaflets made by students And holding periodic seminars in the various disciplines of the department from the members of the assisting body under the supervision of the faculty members, and also includes conducting research on bacteria, fungi, and viruses that cause diseases. Many scientific researches have been published in specialized international journals, which indicates the research output of the department and its contribution to achieving the research plan. The efficiency and excellence of the members of the department.
