About the Department

Pharmacognosy is one of the basic and unique disciplines in pharmaceutical science, which studies drugs extracted from natural sources such as plants, animals, marine organisms and microorganisms (Bacteria, fungi, etc.).

The department’s courses aim to introduce to the student the Pharmacognosy and the importance of teaching these courses in obtaining a food and medicinal source from natural products (plant or animal).

The department focuses on courses that teach students how to identify medicinal plants in their whole form or in powder form, as well as their biologically active chemical components such as alkaloids, volatile oils, glycosides, vitamins, mineral salts, etc., and the impact of these chemical contents in treating diseases.
