Pharmacology & Biochemistry Department

Brief About The Department

Pharmacology, biochemistry and related sub-sciences are original disciplines in pharmacy science concerned with studying the effect of drugs on various body systems and their ability to treat various diseases. Toxicology is also interested in studying the harmful effect of various drugs and medications on the body’s systems and how to deal with these adverse effects and toxicity resulting from their use.

Pharmacology is one of the basic and unique departments in the faculty of Pharmacy, as it has no counterpart in other practical faculties. The courses in the department aim to introduce the student to the science of pharmacology and toxicology and the importance of teaching the courses of these sciences in knowing the desired and side effects of using various pharmaceutical products and how these drugs work in addition to treating the side effects of taking these medicines.

Biochemistry is one of the branches of natural sciences that specializes in the study of everything related to the life of living organisms. Biochemistry is sometimes described as the science of life due to the connection of biochemistry to life. Scientists in this field have focused on researching the chemistry of living organisms of all kinds by studying the cellular components of these organisms in terms of the chemical compositions of these components, their areas of existence and their vital functions, as well as the study of the various biological interactions that occur within these living cells in terms of metabolism and energy production.

Aims:
